Personal Story of overcoming adversity, including lessons learned and character gained through the experience...
"The most important thing I've learned through life and sports is; if you really want something it's up to you to go and get it. Having asthma and being out of shape made verything difficult for me when I first started off my high school track career. Being a freshman, my number one goal for high school was to either get runner up or win my events at the state meet. My freshman and sophomore year, I never put in the efort I should have during practice. When I ended up making it to state both years and not doing very well, I realzied the only way I'm going to reach those goals is to put in work. Instead of just sitting around all summber and witner, I decided to run and lift. As I entered my junior year I realized the practices were a lot easier for me and I have 110% every practice. I would even stay after practice or run on weekends. My junior year went great for me, I set personal records in both my 100m and 200m and I even placed 3rd and 6th at the state meet. Even though I didn't reach my goal my junior year, I learned that hard work really does pay off."
Express what you hope to do with an opportunity to be a scholarship-student-athlete. What you hope to give a team and accomplish in college as we'll as what you hope to do with your education and how that big step of completing a degree will lead toward your long term goals...
"Ever since I was little, I've always wanted to run track in college. There was nothing that made me happier than watching college track and field on T.V. and dreaming that one day I'd be on there. I would be so grateful if I had the opportunity to be a scholarship-student-athlete. One thing I've learned in high school is that, being on a team is absolutely amazing. It's almost like a second family. I hope to meet more people and graduate from college so I can go on helping people in life and maybe one day become a coach myself."
Coach Hudgens bio and insights on Cassidy McIntire...
"Cassidy is an exceptiong student-athlete full of intrinsic motivation to prepare and perform at her personal best. She contacted me at the end of her junior year during spring track season with a humble longing to develop composure at the starting line because she was experiencing inconsistency with coming out of the blocks. The mental aspect she grasped right way, by appling the serenity-prayer perspective at that start of the race and simply giving attention and focus on the things she can control such as loading her heels into the block-pedals to engage in her drive phase. Throughout the 2015 summer I got to experience her work-ethic which transcends college-ready dedication and discipline. Her coachability and desire to reach her potential expresses a great capacity in developing mechanically as well as physically. As a coach she challenges me to plan ahead and mindfully prepare for the next step in perfecting each step in her sprint. I'm humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Cassidy's journey and excited for her bright future."
